The Visual Arts program at Whittington Primary School is an important component of our student’s education. It is designed to encourage and challenge students to reach their artistic potential in a safe and supportive environment.
Our classes focus on the process rather than the finished product. This ensures students have chances to be creative, and making choices when experimenting with materials, tools and techniques. Students also get opportunities to refine their practical and fine motor skills.
During their time at Whittington Primary School students will explore a wide variety of different art mediums such as drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, clay, sculpture, construction and textiles. Students learn to communicate and express themselves through their art. They have opportunities to respond to the artwork of others, and gain knowledge and understanding of famous artists past and present.
Students attend one 60-minute art session per week with their class.
Our Art classroom and outdoor learning space is a beautiful brand new area. It is a spacious and well equipped learning environment. Art smocks are provided by the school for students to share and use during their lessons.
The art produced by our talented students is celebrated and displayed around the school. We also take every opportunity available to us the display our work in our community. Students are rewarded for their efforts at assembly with an ‘Artist of the Week’ award.
